Detroit Mercy Rallies Past WMU, 2-1
August 14, 2017
DETROIT (8/14/2017) -- Senior Phylisha Drayton put the Titans on top in the first half, and freshman Rima Youssef had the game winner in the second as the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team defeated Western Michigan, 2-1, in an exhibition game at Titan Field on Monday.
Drayton, a 2016 All-HL Second Team selection, struck for a marker 15 minutes into the action and gave the Titans a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw Western Michigan knot the game at 1-1 with a penalty kick, but back came the Titans as Youssef got loose inside the box and off a great pass, she was able to beat the keeper with a header with 19 minutes remaining.
The Titan defense saw the Broncos push the tempo and come up with a few scoring chances in the second half, but Detroit Mercy was able to keep them off the scoreboard.
The red, white and blue will now get ready for the regular season as the Titans host Toledo on Friday at Titan Field. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
