Detroit Titan Women's Soccer Ranked Regionally
DETROIT -- The UDM women's soccer team appeared in the latest version of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Regional Rankings as the No. 10 team in the Great Lakes Region.
The NSCAA separates the country into regions based on the regions set forth by the NCAA or other governing bodies. These regions may consist of one state or several states. The Regional Chair relies on coaches in his or her region to report scores to them. The Chair also can refer to the College Soccer Scoreboard for the latest results from top schools in his or her region. The Regional Chairs then take those results into a regional conference call to determine a top 10 listing. Only coaches vote on the poll, both regionally and nationally. The national polls are determined through a conference call.
In 2011, Detroit is 7-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Horizon League heading into Thursday's home match against Oakland and has outscored opponents 34-9 in those 11 games.
Two previous opponents this season for UDM in Central Michigan and Michigan State are also on the regional list. No. 5 Central Michigan defeated the Titans 1-0 in the season opener in Mount Pleasant while the Michigan State (No. 9) contest went to double overtime and the Spartans won with a golden goal in the 107th minute in East Lansing.
Milwaukee of the Horizon League, Sunday's opponent for the Titans, sit atop the Great Lakes Region at No. 1 and are also No. 15 in the NSCAA National Poll after starting the year with an 8-1 overall record.
