DeVault Earns Second Conference Award
The Western Athletic Conference named women's soccer freshman Katie DeVaultDefensive Player of the Week (Sept. 12-18) for her role in the Bulldogs going undefeated over the weekend. This is the second time DeVault has received the honor this season.
"Katie's been working really hard and she's just getting much more comfortable in the role," said Head Coach Brian Zwaschka. "Not only with the physical demands of it but absolutely with the leadership demands of it."
DeVault finished the weekend with 19 saves in two games.
After giving up an early goal to Colorado College (Sept. 16), the Santa Ana, Calif. native made 10 saves to keep the Tigers scoreless for the remaining 77 minutes of regulation and through two 10 minute overtimes to earn the 1-1 tie.
She picked up her third shutout of the year against Air Force on Sept. 18 after grabbing nine saves. The Bulldogs won the match 2-0. The shutout was also the teams fifth this season.
DeVault currently leads the WAC in saves (53), is second in saves per game (5.89), and third in shutouts (3) and shutouts per game (0.33).
"She's adding a comfort level to our back line and to the team defense in general that we hope keeps growing because she's on a great track right now," said Zwaschka.
"We Are Your Team!" Look out for the Bulldogs big promotion during their next home match against No. 9 Pepperdine on Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. Every fan in attendance will receive a prize.
