DII/DIII Performances of the Week: Oct. 12

DII

Women

Forward Mary Reilly was amongst the goals last week, scoring both of UC San Diego’s tallies in a 2-0 defeat of San Francisco State. Reilly also setup a goal as UCSD cruised to a 4-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay.

Last Wednesday, Florida Tech upended Grand Valley State, sending the powerhouse to its first defeat of 2016. Forward Keira McCarthy accounted for both goals, including the winning strike in the 87th minute.

Defender Sierra Shugarts continues to find the back of the net for Western Washington, which rose to No. 1 in the latest NSCAA rankings this week. Shugarts scored game winners in defeats of Montana State Billings and Northwest Nazarene.

West Chester extended its winning streak to 11 at the start of the season, secured a 3-1 victory against Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday. Senior midfielder Scarlett Walsh accounted for West Chester’s first two goals in the win.

Men

Thanks to a pair of game winners from Kaleb Jackson, Rockhurst extended its winning streak to five straight games, and its unbeaten 2016 season to 12 games. Jackson’s heroics secured 2-1 road wins over Bellarmine and Southern Indiana.

Junior forward Jon Ander had a hand in several goals for Wingate over the weekend, scoring the game winner in a 1-0 win over Brevard. Ander had two assists in Monday’s 6-1 victory over Clayton State.

It was a rampant 6-1 Adelphi victory on Saturday against Stonehill, thanks in part to James Thristino and Caelan Huber. Thristino scored and added two assists, while Caelan Huber scored twice and had a helper in the rout.

Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Cameron McElfresh is the national leader in goals against average for UC San Diego, and he rose to the occasion again as the Tritons swept a pair of weekend matches. He made five saves in a 2-1, come from behind win over San Francisco State, topping that with four saves and a shutout as UCSD defeated Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.

DIII

Women

Arcadia continues to climb up the DIII National Rankings. Kayla Haberbosch score a hat trick and assisted the game winning goal in a 6-0 defeat of Hood, extending the Knights’ record to 13-0.

Substitute Megan Richard came off the bench and made a quick impact in William Smith’s 4-0 win against Clarkson. Richard notched a pair of goals as the Herons won their 12th straight game.

Meg Van de Loo continues to make an impact for Johns Hopkins. Last Wednesday, she scored the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Franklin and Marshall, and was on the score sheet again in a 3-2 victory against Ursinus on Saturday.

Men

After a late September hiccup, Franklin and Marshall is rolling against. Jason Tonelli scored twice as the Diplomats beat McDaniel on the road on October 8.

A clash of two Top 25 teams saw Ohio Northern and Capital draw 2-2 on Saturday. Alexander Basiakos did the damage for Capital, scoring both goals, while Ohio Northern’s Matt Kinkopf scored and setup another as the points were shared.

Lynchburg erased a 1-0 deficit, scoring twice on either side of the half to secure a 2-1 victory over Randolph-Macon. Thomas Salamone was involved in both goals, getting the assist on Nate Berning and Fredy Flores tallies.

Senior defender Jacob Bender helped Messiah storm to a 4-0 road victory over Washington & Lee. Bender scored and had an assist as the Falcolms won a fourth straight game.
