'Dogs Remain Undefeated at Home
Oct. 21, 2011
FRESNO, Calif. - Only 1:28 passed before the Fresno State women's soccer team scored against Western Athletic Conference rival Louisiana Tech Friday night. The Bulldogs cruised to a 2-0 win for their eighth shutout of the year. They have not given up a goal to the Lady Techsters in the history of the program.
"I think that the team is really feeling good about bouncing back from our blip at Hawaii with this game leading into our final home game," said Head Coach Brian Zwaschka. "I think we proved that we can get back on track."
Senior Molly Nizzoli tied the single-season assists record after inserting the ball to sophomore Lauren Lindstrom on a corner kick. Lindstrom headed in her third goal of the year to give the 'Dogs the 1-0 lead less than a minute and half into the contest.
The score remained the same through the break, with the 'Dogs out shooting Louisiana Tech 14-4, 7-4 on goal.
With less than a minute remaining in the match, junior Callie Hancock broke away down the right sideline. After turning the corner on her defender, she forced sophomore goalkeeper Caitlyn Updyke to make a move and chipped the ball in over her arms for her ninth goal of the year.
Freshman Katie DeVault finished with a career-high 12 saves.
The match marked the final night game inside Bulldog Stadium for the women's soccer team as the final preparations for the new Soccer and Lacrosse Field are being made for the WAC tournament (Nov. 3-4 & 6).
"We've managed to put together a good home record, one we are very proud of," said Zwaschka. "We of course want to continue to defend."
