DSU TIES SAINT PETER’S, 0-0, IN DOUBLE OT
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – For the first time this season, the Delaware State University women’s soccer team held an opponent scoreless, but the Hornets were also unable to find the net as the two teams drew a 0-0 tie in double overtime Friday afternoon.
Freshman Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.), in her first career collegiate game, recorded her third save of the day at the 103rd minute to keep the Peahens scoreless.
The Hornets got off four shots in the first overtime, but were unable to find the net as one went wide and three were saved by SPC goalie Caitlin Hoffer.
“Katelyn did a great job in her first game,” remarked DSU head coach Nitan Soni. “There were some nerves in the beginning, but she was calm and collected in the overtime period to keep them off of the scoreboard.”
Del State was able to tally a season-high 11 shots with four coming from sophomore Elizabeth Olivier (Andover, N.J.).
The Hornets recorded four shots in both the first half and first overtime while allowing SPC to just six in the entire game.
Freshman Chelsea Boursiquot (Stratford, Conn.) got a shot off immediately in the 90th minute, but was unable to score as Hoffer collected a save on the play.
Olivier followed with a shot in the 93rd minute, but the result was the same. Another shot from Olivier in the 99th minute was wide before Hoffer recorded another save off of a shot by junior Candace Wyre (Smyrna, Del.) in the 99th minute.
“I’m proud of the way our girls held on and stayed strong throughout the game,” stated Soni.
With the tie, the Hornets move to 0-2-1 on the season while the Peahens are 0-1-1. This marks DSU’s first tie since the 2009 season when they played Wilmington to a 2-2 draw.
The Hornets continue their road trip on Monday as they play at Drexel at 6 p.m.
