LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In three meetings and 330 minutes played, the Duke and Louisville women’s soccer teams are still looking for the first goal as the two women’s soccer squads battled to a double-overtime scoreless draw, 0-0, Sunday afternoon at Lynn Stadium in Louisville, Ky.

 

Duke moved to 7-4-4 overall and 1-2-3 in ACC play, while Louisville is 7-5-2, 3-2-1. 

 

“Overall I thought we really grew a lot this week,” said Duke head coach Robbie Church.  “I thought we grew a lot in our preparation and out on the field. We worked very hard, but probably didn’t get what we deserved out of it today. EJ [Proctor] didn’t have to make a save out there.  We have to still continue to go back to work in the final third.  We are looking forward to going down the road to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Friday.”

 

The Blue Devils and Cardinals have now played three double-overtime scoreless meetings in three matches in school history. 

 

Duke opened the match firing shots early and often at the Cardinal goal.  The Blue Devils had a couple of excellent scoring chances but Louisville goalkeeper Taylor Bucklin made excellent saves to keep the score even. 

 

At the end of the first half, Duke held a 14-2 shot advantage led by eight attempts by freshman Taylor Racioppi, while junior Toni Payne and Kayla McCoy added three and two shots, respectively. 

 

Duke with a 20-4 shot advantage at the end of regulation as the Blue Devils held a 6-2 lead in the second half.  Payne had a good chance early in the second period, but the shot was once again saved by Bucklin.  Sophomore Imani Dorsey also served a great cross in front of the face of the goal, but it was just in front of a sliding Racioppi. 

 

Payne added two shots in the first overtime that were blocked and one sailed high over the crossbar, while Louisville had a shot go wide.  In the second overtime, the Blue Devils featured some dangerous opportunities.  Two straight corner kicks by Dorsey, but Duke wasn’t able to get a shot off.  Sophomore Morgan Reid had a shot that was saved as well. 

 

Duke’s last attempt came off the head of freshman Kat McDonald that was saved in the 108^th minute. 

 

The Blue Devils finished with a 24-6 shot advantage in the match and held an 8-4 lead in corner kicks.  Racioppi and Payne led the way with eight and seven shots, respectively. 

 

Sophomore EJ Proctor registered her sixth shutout of the season and Duke now owns nine clean sheets in 2015.  Bucklin finished the match with 10 saves for the Cardinals. 

 

Duke will next play at North Carolina Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 p.m., in Chapel Hill, N.C.
