SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Kent State junior forward Jaclyn Dutton (Bridgeport, Ohio) etched her name in the Golden Flashes’ record book Friday night, as Dutton tallied the fourth hat trick in Kent State history in Kent State’s 3-0 win over Lamar in the first game of the UTSA Classic, hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio. Kent State remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 3-0-1 on the season.

 

Dutton shook the nets in the 16^th and 21^st minutes of the first half, and with her goal in the 49^th minute, Dutton had three goals in 33:04 for the fastest hat trick in team history.

 

Now in her second season with the Golden Flashes, Dutton is no stranger to goal-scoring proficiency. Dutton graduated from Ohio’s St. Clairsville High School as the state’s all-time goal-scoring record holder with 192 career scores as a prep.

 

But Dutton wasn’t the only player to shine for the Golden Flashes. Four players registered assists on Dutton’s goals, including senior Megan Repas (Avon, Ohio). Repas moved into a tie for fifth in team history with 14 career assists.

 

Notably, also earning an assist was freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Senn (Grand Island, N.Y.). Senn’s long punt early in the game set up Repas to connect with Dutton in the 16^th minute, making Senn the second goalkeeper in Kent State history to register an assist while playing goalkeeper; the first was Kelly Sherwood, who accomplished the feat in 2009 and 2011.

 

Also notching assists were Stephanie Haugh (Richmond Hill, Ontario) and Sara Henderson (Strongsville, Ohio). Of note, 21 players took the field for Kent State in the win.

 

Between the pipes, Senn and junior Julie Keslar (Akron, Ohio) combined for eight saves – including five by Keslar – to post the team’s second shutout of the season. Senn stopped a Lamar penalty kick in the 31^st minute.

 

With a kick-off temperature that hovered near 100 degrees, Kent State edged Lamar 17-16 in shots, despite the Cardinals posting an 11-7 lead in attempts in the second half.

 

Lamar (1-3-0) managed 16 shots in the game, including eight by Kristin Bos. The Cardinals tallied five saves in the setback.

 

Kent State will take on the host UTSA Roadrunners Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. ET.
