Eagles Defeat Quinnipiac, 2-0
NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team opened up the 2019 season with a 2-0 victory over Quinnipiac at the Newton Soccer Field on Thursday afternoon.
Senior Adam French scored his first career goal just nine minutes into the match, and freshman Amos Shapiro-Thompson scored in the 76th minute to secure the victory.
The Eagles out-shot the Bobcats, 15-10, in the match. The Eagles also had a, 6-5, edge in corner kicks.
Boston College (1-0) will next play at Boston University on Sunday, Sept. 1 at Nickerson Field at 4 p.m.

TURNING POINT
- Just nine minutes into the game, senior Adam French was led into the box by a great ball from junior Lasse Lehmann. French scored from six yards out to give BC a 1-0 lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boston College controlled much of the first half with a 10-4 advantage in overall shots. In the first 15 minutes of the match, BC held a 5-1 lead in shots.
- French almost had his second of the game in the 11th minute off a ball in the box from Heidar Aegisson.
- Freshman Stefan Sigurdarson, a 6-foot-3 target in the box, got his head on a ball from Lasse Lehmann in the box in the 15th minute of play. His header just went wide.
- Boston College held a 1-0 lead at the half.
- Quinnipiac came out a different team in the second half. The Bobcats had four shots and two corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of play.
- Boston College regained control of the match as the defense settled the game down.
- The Eagles put the game away in the 76th minute behind a goal from freshman Amos Shapiro-Thompson. Fellow freshmen Mike Suski and Stefan Sigurdarson were credited with assists on the goal.

- Boston College has opened a season against Quinnipiac the last six seasons. BC is 6-0 in those meetings.
- The Eagles now lead the overall series against Quinnipiac, 12-1-1.
- Boston College is now 9-1-1 in season openers since the 2009 season.
