The Boston College women's soccer team lost to No. 5 Florida State, 2-0, in the first ACC game of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Field. The Eagles are now 7-3-0 on the season and 0-1 in the ACC, while the Seminoles are now 8-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference.

Florida State scored both goals in the first half.

Cheyna Williams scored first in the 18th minute of play off a tough clear. Williams chipped the ball on a one-timer over the BC goalkeeper Darien Dunham for the 1-0 lead.

The second Seminoles goal came in the 40th minute off the foot of Berglind Thorvaldottir. It was her fourth goal of the season.

Florida State held a 9-4 edge in shots in the first half.

The second half Boston College's offense started to connect. Rosie DiMartino had a chance early in the half off a nice pass from Stephanie McCaffrey. DiMartino's right-footed shot was handled by the FSU goalkeeper Cassie Miller.

Later in the half, Lauren Bernard ripped a shot off the corner of the cross bar. The Eagles had two corner kicks andMeg MacDonald had a chance just outside the box. The ball took a tough bounce so MacDonald could not get enough leg on the shot.

Cassie Miller picked up her eighth victory in goal for Florida State, while BC started rookie Darien Dunham. She had four saves in the game.

Boston College will host Pittsburgh on Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Newton Soccer Field at 7 p.m. followed by Sunday's home match against Clemson at 1 p.m.
