Eagles-Warriors Play to a 0-0 OT Draw
NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College men’s soccer team played to a 0-0 overtime draw against non-conference foe Merrimack on Tuesday afternoon. Boston College is now 5-2-2 overall (0-2-1 ACC) and will host No. 3 Wake Forest (8-1, 3-0 ACC) on Friday at 7.
The Eagles edge Merrimack in shots, 15-12, and had a game-high 11 corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Christian Garner made two saves for the Eagles. The Merrimack goalkeeper Lucas Rezendes finished with five saves.
BC’s best chance in the first half came early off the foot of freshman Amos Shapiro-Thompson. The Eagles midfielder had a shot from just inside the 18 that Rezendes bobbled a bit but held onto the rebound. Minutes later, Shapiro-Thompson’s shot from just outside was right at the goalkeeperand the score remained at 0-0.
Merrimack’s best chance in the half came when a header from Marc Torrellas hit the crossbar in the 43rd minute of play.
In the second half, Boston College had three corner kicks in the final 13 minutes of action and could not put one home. Merrimack’s best flurry came in the first overtime where the Warriors had four shots that the BC defense turned away before Garner saved the final shot to preserve the 0-0 tie.

- Senior Nikita Bondar made his season debut as he played 25 minutes.
- Freshman Amos Shapiro-Thompson led the offensive attack with six shots, while freshman Stefan Sigurdarson had five shots.
- This was BC’s second consecutive tie. Last week, Boston College left Blacksburg with a 2-2 (OT) draw vs. Virginia Tech.
