Early Titan Goal Not Enough On Wednesday

DETROIT (9/6/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team came up with a quick strike just 30 seconds into the match, but the Titans were unable to hold on in a 3-1 setback to Bowling Green on Wednesday.
Freshman Kelli Doyle took a long pass from senior Rachel DeLuca and headed in her second goal of the year for the offense as she led the team with four shots.
Senior Phylisha Drayton added two shots and senior Marina Manzo posted six saves in net.
The Titans will now hit the road to Central Michigan on Sunday with game time slated for 1 p.m.

First Half
- The Titans got off to a fast start as DeLuca was 10 yards out and sent a ball in the box that Doyle was able to control and head in for the goal.
- A few minutes later, she nearly had her second as another header hit the crossbar before freshman Rachel Russo sent a shot high.
- Manzo came up with a save at the 6:04 mark and then the Titans were able to hold the Falcons without a shot on two consecutive corner kick opportunities.
- At 15:26, Bowling Green got on the board as Madison Schupbach loaded up and took a shot from 20 yards out that just snuck past the keeper.
- Manzo had three more saves after that to keep Bowling Green at bay.
- Doyle had two potential scoring chances with 15 minutes left in the half, but one shot was saved, and another sailed wide.
Second Half
- This time Bowling Green got off to a fast start netting a goal nearly seven minutes into play, and the Falcons put in a third at 74:06.
- The Titans had a chance to pull within one late, but Drayton's attempt hit the post with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Notes
- Detroit Mercy is 8-5 all-time against Bowling Green and 5-2 at home.
- The red, white and blue are 38-34-10 all-time against MAC schools.
- Doyle came into the game with just two shots on the year and had four on the day.
- Sophomore Casey Couturier made her first appearance of the season and was also in the starting line-up.
