ECU soccer team suffers first loss, 1-0
WICHITA, Kan. – The East Central University women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday night, dropping a 1-0 decision to host Newman University.
Newman’s Kayla Strong scored off an Alli Zingo cross in the 29th minute for the only score of the contest.
The Jets out-shot the Lady Tigers 12-9 as each team finished with five shots on goal. Ashley Bradford and Taylor Graves each ended up with two shots on goal apiece while Brittany Grady had the other.
ECU goalkeeper Natalie Wilson registered four saves while Newman’s Christina Farid made five.
There were 24 fouls in the game, 13 by the Jets and 11 by the Lady Tigers. Newman’s Jordan DeBoer and ECU’s Whitney Watts received red card ejections in the 24th minute. The Jets also received two yellow cards.
The Lady Tigers, 2-1 on the season, will play at Friends University on Saturday at 7 p.m.
