Ellenwood Invited To U-23 National Team Camp
SEATTLE, Wash. – Arkansas women’s soccer junior forward Ashleigh Ellenwood will get an early jump on her preparation for the 2014 campaign when she takes part in the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team Domestic Training Camp from July 15-22 in Seattle, Wash.
A total of 24 players that are either current collegiate athletes or just played their senior season last fall make up the roster that will be led by head coach Steve Swanson over the seven days.
“I’m honored to represent the University of Arkansas and I’m really excited for the opportunity to train at the U-23 camp,” said Ellenwood, who has 48 points over 44 career games as a Razorback. “Playing with and against some of the best collegiate players in the country will be great preparation for what we hope will be another great season of Arkansas soccer.”
Arkansas’ record-setting 2013 campaign in which it won a program-best 15 games en route to advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time and making a run to the Sweet Sixteen. An All-SEC second team choice, Ellenwood led the Razorbacks with 35 points on team-highs of 14 goals and 7 assists. Over the 24-game season, Ellenwood registered a point in 14 of those contests, highlighted by six game-winning goals which set a new program single-season record.
“What a great honor and an opportunity well deserved by Ashley,” said third-year head coach Colby Hale, who has orchestrated the Razorbacks to 24 wins over the last two years, the most over any two-year span in program history. “The program broke numerous season records last year and Ashley was obviously a big part of that. It’s great to see her hard work pay off personally.”
Ellenwood and the rest of the Razorbacks will officially begin preseason camp on Aug. 6, and fans can get their first glimpse of the 2014 club on Thursday, Aug. 7 during the Red-White scrimmage at Razorback Field. More information on the Red-White scrimmage will be available soon.
