Evans, No. 4 Orediggers Roll At CSU-Pueblo, 4-0
PUEBLO – Senior Anna Evans earned her first hat trick in 2013 and NSCAA No. 4 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer rolled to its highest scoring output of the season Friday, defeating Colorado State-Pueblo 4-0 at Rawlings Soccer Complex.
Evans provided the initial advantage 26:40 into the match, then added second half scores at 51:40 and 83:02. Senior Jordan Hopper and freshman Cari Smith tied for the team assists lead with their thirds of the season, setting up the first and second goals, respectively.
Evans' third career three-goal game and first since a 5-0 home win against Adams State on Oct. 14, 2012 moved her atop of the RMAC leaderboard with 10 goals, 23 points and four game-winners.
Ranked second among active Division II career leaders in goals (51) and third in points at week's beginning, the Arvada native climbed past former teammate Megan Woodworth (2009-12) into No. 2 in the school record book in all-time points with 124.
Sophomores Deirdre Johnson and Mel Westhoff combined for the game's third marker as Johnson put away her first of the season at 69:15.
Mines directed eight of 16 shots on goal, outshooting the ThunderWolves (5-9, 2-9 RMAC) 16-10. Evans led the way with all three shots on goal, sophomore Rachael Turner had two and Johnson, senior Bree Archuleta and freshman Anna Deleray each recorded one.
Sophomore Jayln Yates denied all three shots on target in 85:00 minutes, improving to 14-0-1.
The Orediggers are tied for sixth in the Division II archives in longest unbeaten streaks at 29 games and in a four-way tie for 19th in consecutive conference matches without a loss with 21. Winners of a program-high 11 straight matches, all in RMAC play; the women are two shy of a tie for 18th in the record book for consecutive conference wins with 14.
Mines has trailed only 92 seconds in the last 2002:38 minutes, giving up four scores in 21 matches.
Coupled with a 2-1 loss by No. 10 Metro State at Fort Lewis Friday, the Orediggers (14-0-1, 11-0 RMAC) cushioned their lead in the conference standings to five points over the Roadrunners (11-1-3, 9-1-1 RMAC) with three regular season matches remaining.
The women meet Western State for the first time at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 at Gateway Field in Gunnison.
