Fairfield Ekes Out Iona, 1-0
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women’s soccer team dropped its second consecutive MAAC game to Fairfield on Saturday afternoon, 1-0. The Gaels managed just two shots on goal of their 12 overall. The Stags held on for the win after freshman defender Melanie Hingher scored her second of the season in the 39th minute.
Senior Emily Hansen and freshman Amber Crispin had the two shots on goal for the Maroon & Gold. Hansen’s strike came in the 34th minute, and Crispin had the first dangerous attempt in the 11th minute. The Gaels did not have a shot on goal in the second half.
Fairfield’s lone tally of the game came off a corner cross from freshman midfielder Jenn Wahlig. Hingher was able to maneuver between the Iona defenders and push it into net.
Junior Tiffany Martinez made three saves in net for the Maroon & Gold.
Iona continues MAAC play on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when the Marist Red Foxes come to New Rochelle for a 3:00 PM kickoff.
