“I think in the first half, the first 15 minutes I think we got caught up in the moment, it took us a little while to get ourselves back in the game.” Noted Notre Dame Head Coach, Mike Shiels, “I think when we got ourselves going we did well. The girls competed and played well. We are happy with the effort; it''s a good building block going forward.”
Cleveland State came out on the attack. The Vikings outshot the visiting Falcons 8-to-1 through the opening 45 minutes. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristy Kolschetzky registered five of her a career tying 10 saves in the first half.
The first period would end just as it began, 0-0.
“We didn''t get a lot of chances, but you''re not going to get many against good teams,” stated Shiels.
The score would remain level till the 63rd minute when Shea Levi went past two Falcons defenders smashing a thunderous strike. That strike would bypass the outstretched fingers of Kolschetzky giving the hosts the, 1-0, advantage.
That score, Levi''s first collegiate goal would be enough for CSU to earn their second straight, 1-0, win over the Falcons.
Notre Dame and Cleveland State last locked horns Oct. 4, 2006, with the Vikings winning through a Heather Wagner goal. Elyse Williamson made eight saves in the loss for NDC in 2006.
The loss snapped a four game winning streak that included an overtime victory at Davenport (Mich.) and a shutout at Urbana.
Notre Dame will return to action with the season''s first home match, Sunday, September 25 at 1 p.m. at Korb Field when they face Alderson Broadus (W.Va.)
