Falcons: Capture MEC Tite
ATHENS, W.Va. – The #6 Notre Dame College men's soccer team defeated the Mountain Lions from Concord 4-0 to claim the Mountain East Conference regular season conference championship.
The Falcons, ranked sixth in the country by the NSCAA, produced an up-tempo performance to score twice in each half to move to 10-1-0 in the MEC and 13-2-0 overall.
The Falcons tool the lead in the 29th minute through a trademark free kick from sophomore midfielder Martin Lange. The Falcons doubled their lead in 40th minute when senior midfielder Tom Owens dribbled into the box and beat the keeper at the near post.
In the second half the Falcons continued to push the tempo and also showed their depth giving the bench some good game time.
Junior forward Adam Mitchell scored his 13th goal of the season in the 57th minute when he connected onto a Tom Owens free kick. Owens then completed his impressive return with his second goal of the game in the 72nd minute.
The Falcons led the Mountain Lions in both shots (16-8) and corner kicks (4-3).
"The team played very well today and it was a good performance to secure the regular season title with," said Associate Head Coach Carl Nolan. "We are looking forward to pushing on into the conference playoffs."
The Falcons, who will be the number one seed in the MEC tournament ,have one regular season game remaining at home against Urbana on Tuesday Oct. 29th at 2 p.m.
