FAU Players Earn All-Tournament Honors
Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer players Claire Emslie and Olivia MBala were recognized for strong performances in the Embassy Suites Classic All-Tournament team, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University.
“Claire and Olivia are deserving of this honor,” said Brian Dooley, FAU’s head women’s soccer coach. “They helped us end the tournament on a very positive performance.”
Emslie, a freshman midfielder, scored a goal and added an assist in the team’s 2-1 win over the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on August 25. The goal marked the first in the career of the Scottish native. Emslie played a left corner kick opportunity to set up the Owls first goal of the match and in the 2012 season. Later in the second half, she fired a shot from 20 yards out to the upper right corner of the net. The goal proved to be the game-winning goal.
MBala, a sophomore defender, was also named to the all-tournament team after holding Wisconsin-Green Bay to just four shots in the match. The Toronto, Ontario, Canada native is seeing her action in a FAU uniform after playing as a freshman at the University of North Carolina.
The Owls stand 1-2 on the season will play in their second consecutive in-season tournament, starting on Friday, August 31, against Northern Arizona University in Las Vegas. The team will also play UNLV on Sunday, September 2.
