FDU Blanked at Princeton 2-0
PRINCETON, N.J.-- The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team concluded the Princeton Invitational on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Princeton at Rodgers Stadium. With the victory, the Tigers improve to 4-3-0 on the season, while the Knights fall to 3-4-1 overall after dropping their third straight match.
Princeton scored a pair of first half goals, which proved to be enough on the day. Thomas Sanner scored the first goal in the 16th minute after Patrick O’Neil intercepted the ball and fed him for the goal. Less than two minutes before halftime, Myles McGinley crossed the ball to Matt Sanner, who found the back of the net to put the home team up 2-0.
The Tigers outshot FDU 9-4 over the first 45 minutes. Freshman Alexsandar Djekic, who made his collegiate debut, made two saves in goal.
For the second consecutive match, Head Coach Seth Roland started junior Jacob Lissek in the net to start the second half. He faced four shots but did not have to make a save.
The Knights were more on the offensive in the second half, outshooting Princeton 6-4 but finished the match trailing 13-10 in shots. FDU held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Five of the Knights’ 10 shots were on goal with sophomore Nico Wright leading the way with two.
Senior Jack McVey and freshman Jan Aubert were named to the All-Tournament team.
FDU will return to action on Friday, Sept. 28 when they host LIU Brooklyn to begin Northeast Conference play. Kickoff at University Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
