FDU Dominates in 2-1 Victory Over DSU
TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over Delaware State Sunday afternoon at University Stadium. With the victory, the Knights improve to 4-5-1 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 0-9-0 overall.
After a scoreless first half, which saw FDU hold a commanding 10-1 lead in shots, the Knights finally broke through late in the 54th minute, as junior Kasey Schiavoni delivered a beautiful corner kick, and sophomore Amanda Goulet was able to deliver a header to the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The goal was Goulet's second of the season.
Fourteen minutes later, freshman Laniyyah Elam scored her first career goal, as she scored off the rebound from Goulet's free kick for the eventual game winner while giving FDU a 2-0 lead.
The Hornets scored in the 85th minute to cut the Knights' advantage to 2-1 on an own goal, but FDU's mistake was not enough in holding on for the victory.
For the match, the Knights dominated in shots, holding a 19-3 edge. Sophomore Felicia Burr picked up her first career victory in goal for FDU after playing the second half. Senior Sage DoVale made one save over the first 45 minutes.
The Knights will return to action Friday, Oct. 4 when they host Mount St. Mary's for a 7 p.m. kickoff at University Stadium. It will be the Northeast Conference opener for both schools.
