FDU Rallies to Defeat Mount St. Mary's 2-1
EMMITSBURG, MD. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team used two second half goals to rally from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Mount St. Mary’s 2-1 in a Northeast Conference contest Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Knights improve to 5-4-2 (2-0-1 NEC) on the season, while the Mount fall to 3-8-0 (1-2-0 NEC) overall.
With less than two minutes before halftime, the Mount’s Will Jagger scored to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
Despite holding a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks, FDU was outshot 2-0 over the first 45 minutes.
Not even two minutes after halftime in the 47th minute, freshman Jan Aubert found sophomore Godfred Baffi on a header for the game-tying goal.
Six minutes later, senior defenseman Nicholas Walker drained the game-winning goal with a header off a feed from senior Jack McVey, which gave the Knights a 2-1 lead that would not be relinquished.
Each team had four shots and three corner kicks over the final 45 minutes. The Mount finished with a 6-4 advantage in shots.
“This was a very good win at a place where we have been particularly unlucky in the past,” Head Coach Seth Roland said. “We came out in the second half and took charge of the game. (Godfred) Baafi and Nicholas) Walker scored two great outstanding headers off outstanding passes from Jan (Aubert) and Jack (McVey). Defensively, Jacob (Lissek) and our back four got the job done in an extremely professional manner.”
FDU will return home with a date against Sacred Heart on Friday, Oct. 12 at University Stadium in Teaneck, N.J. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
