FDU Takes Down Princeton on the Road in Overtime, 2-1
The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team improved to 3-1-0 on the season with an exciting 2-1 overtime road win at Princeton Friday night in Princeton, NJ.
Three minutes into overtime, junior #Jack McVey# was tripped running parallel to the end line to the goalie’s right inside the box, thus drawing a penalty kick. McVey calmly sunk the penalty kick to give the Knights their first 3-1-0 start since 2006.
The win snaps a four-game losing streak to the Tigers (0-2-1) as the Knights last defeated Princeton in 2006. The victory was also the second overtime victory for the Knights on the season as they defeated NJIT, 2-1, in the season opener.
The Knights got on the board first in the 27th minute on an own goal as a Princeton player knocked the ball in between the pipes off an FDU corner kick to give the Knights an early 1-0 advantage.
At the 54th minute in the second half, Cameron Porter took a pass at the end line from Antoine Hoppenot and found the back of the net with his shot right in front of the goal to tie the game at one.
Neither team failed to score in regulation, setting up McVey’s game winner and first goal of the season in the extra period.
Sophomore #Jacob Lissek# picked up his third win of the season in net as he made five stops. Max Gallin made two saves for the Tigers.
The Knights managed only nine shots in the contest but made two of them count. Princeton took 17 shots in the losing effort.
FDU returns to action next Friday, Sept. 16, when they host Yale at University Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
