Feller’s Brace Lifts Denver Past Fullerton
FULLERTON, Calif. – Freshman Samantha Feller (Grand Junction, Colo.) opener her collegiate account in her sixth career match with two second half goals to take the University of Denver women’s soccer team past Cal State Fullerton 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium.
Junior captain Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) made four saves in her fourth cleansheet of the campaign and the 11th shutout of her career.
Denver (4-4-2) held an 8-6 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes, putting five of those attempts on goal, and forcing Titan (3-7-1) goalkeeper Tianna Sanders into a couple difficult saves in the first half. Wilson made two saves in the first half to keep the score at 0-0 heading into the break.
Feller got the Pioneers on the board in the 50th minute when the Denver freshman striker finished low past Sanders off a cross from freshman winger Camryn MacMillan (Littleton, Colo.) to put the visitors in-front. Denver’s breakthrough was the Pioneers sixth goal by a freshman this season.
The Denver freshman added a second goal with 12 seconds to play in regulation, finishing a 1v1 breakaway against the keeper in the bottom left corner to seal the victory. Freshman Natalie Beckman (Denver, Colo.) tallied the second assist of her rookie season on the final goal.
