FGCU Duo Invited to Canadian U-20 Camp
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Just a week removed from playing in the NCAA Tournament and helping the defense post its eight shutout in nine games, FGCU sophomore keeper Nathan Ingham (Ontario, Canada/Keswick HS) and freshman center back Daniel Stanese (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia/Pitt Meadows Secondary) have been selected to participate in the Under-20 Canadian National team camp, held from Nov. 20-30 in Sunrise, Fla.
Head Coach Nick Dasovic selected players from professional clubs and academies in seven different countries, but Ingham and Stanese are the only two U.S. college players on the roster. The Canadian U-20 team will play international matches against Costa Rica over the 11-day camp.
Ingham participated in the camp last year, while Stanese came to FGCU after playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Developmental Academy club that advanced all the way to the USSDA U-17/18 Championship.
A native of Ontario, Canada, Ingham followed his A-Sun Tournament MVP run as a freshman with a sophomore campaign that saw him log every minute in net for FGCU, who finished with a 11-5-3 overall record, its third straight A-Sun regular season title and second consecutive A-Sun Tournament championship. Ingham finished as the A-Sun leader with nine shutouts, resulting in a 0.98 goals against average (GAA), which ranked third in the A-Sun and second in FGCU single-season history.
Stanese’s selection to the team camp caps off a tremendous three-month stretch for the freshman as he started in 18 games this season. A member of the 2012 A-Sun All-Freshmen team, he helped guide the youthful FGCU defense to eight shutouts in its last nine games, allowing just one goal in the final 592 minutes.
