Final freshmen women's Top 100 revealed
The amount of quality first-year talent in women’s college soccer this season was definitely pronounced.
Freshmen from all over the country entered the season as starters at powerhouses at Notre Dame, Florida, West Virginia, Portland and Stanford to name just a few.
And while Florida forward Savannah Jordan did just enough to claim the No. 1 ranking, it was extremely close. Jordan, who didn’t enter the season with a youth international background like some of her other first year competition, scored 22 goals for the Gators, putting together a freshman campaign for the record books.
She narrowly edged out West Virginia stalwart Kadeisha Buchanan, who comes in at No. 2. Buchanan, a fixture in the Canadian full national team, was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, and anchored the defense from her center back spot.
Trailing just behind that duo is Notre Dame midfielder Morgan Andrews. The ACC Freshmen of the Year started every game for the Irish, and led the team in total points, scoring seven times and notching five assists.
Andrews is joined in the Top 10 by several 2012 U.S. U17 World Cup teammates. There’s Stanford’s Maddie Bauer (No. 4), Harvard forward Margaret Purce (No. 5 and also Ivy League Player of the Year) and UCLA’s Darian Jenkins.
The rest of the field provides remarkable talent from across the globe, including Iceland, Canada and New Zealand.
