First-Half Markers Give Big Green Win

BRONX, N.Y.- Freshman Corey Delaney (Chatham, N.J.) picked up her first collegiate goal just 11 minutes into the game and opened the floodgates as the Dartmouth women's soccer team defeated Fordham, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.

In it's last two games Dartmouth has outscored the competition, 6-0, and has now won two consecutive games for the first time since the 2010 season.

Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.) boasted a team-high five shots while Libby Hamlin (Vernon, Conn.) added four shots. As a team, Dartmouth (4-2-0) registered a season-high 25 shots, with 11 shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) picked up her second consecutive shutout and made four saves in 90 minutes of action.

Although Fordham (2-6-0) opened the game with a quick header from Joann Murino, which forced the Dartmouth backline to clear the ball, Dartmouth settled in within the first five minutes and started to move the ball.

Delaney tallied the first goal of the game at the 11:15 mark after shots from Moschitto and Hamlin. Delaney put one past goalkeeper Rachel Suther into the upper left hand corner from 18 yards out with the assist coming from senior Emma Brush (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.)

Moschitto kept the Dartmouth offense hot and just two minutes later picked up her second goal in as many games connecting with a volley on a pass from Brush, who picked up her second assist on the afternoon.

Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) capped the scoring by nailing a penalty shot -- the first of the season for the Big Green -- giving the away team a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Big Green kept pouring on the offense in the second half, amassing 17 second-half shots including shots that hit the post from Lozier and a crossbar from Brush.

Despite taking a few minutes to settle into the rhythm of the game, Dartmouth's backline kept the Rams at bay for the majority of the contest, allowing just 14 shots, with only five reaching frame.

Dartmouth returns home for its next two contests. First up the Big Green host the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) on Thursday (Sept. 20) at 5 p.m. and open Ivy League action against Brown on Sunday (Sept. 23). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
