First Half Scores Rally No. 13 Mines Past Regis, 2-1
GOLDEN – Faced with its first deficit since last October, NSCAA No. 13 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer rallied with a pair of first half markers to defeat local rival and defending RMAC regular season champion Regis 2-1 on Friday at CSM Soccer Stadium in Golden.
Regis (2-3-1, 0-2-1 RMAC) found the scoring column just 2:12 into the match as Sid Otto flipped a short cross from inside the right box to the far post where Meghan Stuart footed the ball out of the air.
The goal was only the second allowed by the Orediggers (6-0-1, 3-0 RMAC) this season and first in 505:24, the second-longest scoreless minutes streak in program history.
Mines freshman Anna Deleray nullified the score 1:32 later, striking an 18-yard shot to the upper, right frame following a lofted free kick at midfield by senior Kelsey Neal. Her third of the year moved her into a share of the team goals lead with fellow freshman Caitlin Kaltenbaugh.
Backed by a stout second half defensive presence, senior Anna Evans earned the eventual game-winner with 15:10 remaining in the first, drawing a foul in the box and converting the subsequent penalty try.
Deleray paced the 18-shot Oredigger attack with three of five attempts on goal, while Evans had three of four looks on target. Kaltenbaugh, senior Bree Archuleta and juniors Rachael Turner and Kendra Bulawa directed one shot on goal apiece.
Sophomore Jayln Yates made two saves over the 90 minutes to improve to 6-0-1 in net.
The women will look to continue their school-record 21-game win streak at 11 a.m. Sunday against No. 17 UC-Colorado Springs at Mountain Lion Field in their first conference road test of the season.
Led by RMAC scoring leader Agnes Arnadottir and reigning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Kelly Schroeder, UCCS (6-0, 3-0 RMAC) began the week as one of only 11 teams in Division II with an undefeated, untied overall record.
