FIU Extends Win-Streak in Shutout V
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 2, 2012) – The FIU men’s soccer team (3-0-0) extended its winning streak to three matches after a 1-0 victory against the Jacksonville Dolphins (0-4-0) Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla.
“We weren’t at our sharpest today but that’s going to happen early in the season,” Head Coach Kenny Arena said. “It’s important to find a way to win games like this and learn from these experiences and continue to grow as a team. Obviously, a second goal would have been great but at the very least, we were prepared to keep our lead.”
FIU freshman keeper Robin Spiegel (Wipperfürth, Germany) earned his second shutout of the season with a four-save performance against the Dolphins.
The Panthers scored the only goal of the match in the 20th minute when freshman Patrick Ramdial (Lionel Town, Jamaica) scored his first-career goal as a Panther. The scoring play started when senior Lucas Di Croce (Miami, Fla.) sent the ball towards the goal to freshman Daniel Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) from the top of the box. Gonzalez then made a blind pass behind his back to Ramdial who buried the ball to the back of the net past the diving JU goalie.
FIU returns to action on Friday, Sept. 7, at Wisconsin and Sunday, Sept. 9, at UIC.
