FIVE FLYERS SCORE IN 5-1 VICTORY OVER RACERS
DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team (2-1-1) dominated in a 5-1 win over Murray State (1-2-0) Sunday at Baujan Field.
The Flyers outshot the Racers 28-11, including 10-3 on shots on goal. Five different Flyers found the back of the net. Junior Nicole Waters had three assists, including on the first goal; sophomore Erin O'Malley scored her frist goal of the season on a header off a Waters corner kick in the 24th minute.
Senior Haley Keller scored her first goal of the season in the 33rd minute. It proved to be the game-winner. She also assisted the final goal of the match by sophomore Meghan Blank in the 78th minute.
Junior Ashley Campbell scored in the 38th minute off an assist from Waters and UD held a 3-0 lead at the half.
The Racers got within 3-1 on a goal by Julie Mooney in the 55th minute, but the Flyers answered with a Chelsea Rose goal in the 61st minute, off a cornerkick from Waters.
Liz James had two saves in goal for UD and improves to 2-1-1 overall.
The Flyers play in the Ohio State Tournament on Sept. 5 vs. the host Buckeyes at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio at 7 p.m. ET. UD will then play Indiana at the same venue on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. Both Big Ten squads earned a berth to the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Indiana is coached by former UD assistant Amy Berbary (at UD from 2004-2008). Her assistant at IU, Sergio Gonzalez, was also a Flyer assistant coach (2006-2010).
