Flashes Drop Season Opener to No. 23 Ohio St
COLUMBUS, Ohio- Kent State soccer dropped their 2016 season opener 3-0 to No. 23 Ohio State on Friday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes notched three first half goals in the win and move to 1-0-0 on the season, while the Golden Flashes move to 0-1-0.
Ohio State's Lindsay Agnew got the scoring started in the eighth minute off long pass from Kylie Knight.
The Buckeye's second goal off the foot of Megh Kammerdeiner in the 19th minute as she controlled a failed clearance and scored from 10 yards out.
Dominique DiNardo had the best look at goal of the first half for the Golden Flashes. After a corner kick from Kristen Brotsin the 31st minute, the ball was momentarily cleared from the 18-yard box before making its way back to DiNardo who fired a shot on goal that was saved by the Buckeye keeper.
Shortly after DiNardo's attempt, Ohio State countered and Naya Carter found the back of the net in the 32nd minute.
The Golden Flashes' goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald registered six saves on nine chances, including three diving saves in the second half.
Jenna Hellstrom threatened on offense three times in the second half with six shots, three of which were on goal. In the 58thminute, Hellstrom got loose and on the left side of the 18-yard box before cutting back to the middle where she put a shot on goal that forced Ohio State's Jillian McVicker to make a diving save.
The Golden Flashes return to action Sunday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m., as they host Canisius in their 2016 home opener.
