FLYER ROAD WOES CONTINUE
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Dayton women’s soccer team continues to struggle in road contests. The Flyers fell 3-1 to Saint Joseph’s at Sweeney Field Friday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 match. Dayton is 5-7-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the A-10, but 0-7-1 in road and neutral matches this season. The Hawks are 8-6-0 overall and picked up their first conference win to move to 1-2-0 in the A-10.
SJU’s Olivia McEarchern scored in the 25th minute, her fourth of the season, and Emily Gingrich scored her seventh goal of the season in the 62nd minute to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Junior Ashley Campbell scored in the 73rd minute on an assist from junior Nicole Waters. It marked Campbell’s team-leading eighth goal of the season and it was the seventh assist of the season for Waters, who leads UD in that category.
Elizabeth James had four saves in goal for the Flyers.
UD outshot the Hawks 16-12 and also had a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.
The only other time the Flyers have lost to the Hawks was a 1-0 loss at home on Sept. 30, 2005.
Dayton is back in action Sunday, Oct. 12 at George Mason at 3 p.m.
UP NEXT
The Flyers will host a pair of Atlantic 10 opponents next weekend. UD hosts La Salle on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field. Friday is Dayton's Breast Cancer Awareness match and UD will be wearing pink warmups. There will be a pink pompom give away, and Red Scare will hold a T-shirt give away for UD students. It is also Metro FC Night and several youth teams will be announced at halftime. Finally, the first 150 fans will receive a free official Dayton women's soccer poster featuring the sophomores!
Dayton then will take on Fordham Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. at Baujan Field. It will be the #UDWSOC senior day. The first 150 fans will receive a free official Dayton women's soccer poster featuring the seniors!
All Dayton regular season matches at Baujan Field are free admission. There will be T-shirt tosses as well as mini balls for goals scored! There will also be halftime contests and trivia contests.
