FLYERS DEFEAT RICHMOND 2-1 ON SENIOR NIGHT
DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton edged Richmond 2-1 Friday night at Baujan Field in Atlantic 10 action. The Flyers (13-4-0, 7-1-0 A-10) recognized their four seniors prior to the match: Katherine Boone, Alexis Garcia, Alysha Mallon and Colleen Williams.
Williams scored the first goal of the match -- and A-10 leading 16th goal of the season -- in the 17th minute on assist from junior Meghan Scharer. Junior Steph Emery scored the game-winner in the 35th minute on an assist from freshman Ashley Campbell.
Richmond scored a goal near the end of the first half to make things interesting. Junior goalkeeper Jordin Melchert had five saves for the Flyers, including four in the second half.
UD hosts VCU this Sunday, Oct. 28 at Baujan Field, in the Flyers' final regular season match of the season. UD has already qualified for the 2012 A-10 Women's Soccer Championship hosted by University of Rhode Island Nov. 9-11. With a win over the Rams Sunday, Dayton will clinch the No. 2 seed. VCU is right behind the Flyers in the standings at 6-2-0.
