FMU falls to Braves 4-1 despite Towns’ score
PEMBROKE, NC – Francis Marion University freshman forward Avery Towns scored her first collegiate goal, but the Patriots dropped a 4-1 ecision to UNC Pembroke, Monday evening (Oct. 17) in Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer action.
FMU will play host to Georgia College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on Hartzler Field.
Towns tallied her goal at the 83:31 mark on a rebound of a shot by junior Haley Bigler. The score came against the conference’s top defense that has a goals against average of only 0.40.
Kate Weisner gave UNCP (8-2-0, 6-0-0) a 1-0 advantage with a ninth-minute goal. The Braves led 3-0 at halftime after additional scores in the 24th and 27th minutes. The final UNCP score came at the 82:53 mark.
Senior Kelly Anthony paced FMU with five shots, four of which were on frame.
Sophomore goalkeeper Casey Murakami posted nine saves as UNCP outshot the Patriots 29-10. Gina Ryan made four stops in goal for the Braves, who are the only remaining unbeaten and untied team in the Peach Belt.
