Fordham With Offensive Explosion vs. Dukes
Bronx, N.Y. – Almost 16 years to the day since the last five-goal game by the Fordham men’s soccer team, the Rams put forth an offensive explosion on Wednesday night, netting a 5-0 shutout win over the Duquesne Dukes at Jack Coffey Field.
The five goals scored are the most by Fordham since a 5-3 win at St. Bonaventure on October 13, 2000. With the victory, Fordham evened its record at 4-4-3 on the season, 1-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne fell to 6-3-3 on the year, 1-1-1 in the league.
Fordham cracked the scoreboard right away in the third minute, snapping a streak of seven consecutive shutouts for Duquesne. Eric Ohlendorf sent a pass wide to Jannik Loebe on the right side. Loebe returned the pass to Ohlendorf for the one-timer from 15 yards out, which went off the left post and in for his third goal of the season.
The Rams made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute on an incredible shot from Janos Loebe. Fordham goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu made the long punt ahead to Loebe on the left side of the box. Loebe was able to touch the ball away from the drawn out goalkeeper, and chip a shot from 17 yards out into the goal for his team-leading fourth of the season.
Fordham wasn’t done on offense, netting three goals in the second half in a span of 4:15. In the 75th minute, Andrew Hickey sent Janos Loebe toward the endline with a through ball. Loebe crossed the ball right in front of the net, where Jannik Loebe headed home his second goal of the year.
Just three minutes later, Ohlendorf netted his second goal of the game on a header off a Cole Stevenson corner kick, making it a 4-0 game.
The Rams got another corner kick a little over a minute later that Janos Loebe took from the right side. Loebe’s corner kick found Joergen Oland’s head, who passed it right to Matthew Lewis, who headed it home for his first career goal and a 5-0 lead.
Nuhu ended up with three saves on the night for his third shutout of the season, while Duquesne’s Evan Kozlowski had two stops for the Dukes.
The Fordham men’s soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 15th, as the Rams travel to Philadelphia for a 1:00 PM match-up against the La Salle Explorers.
