Forrest wins PL Offensive Player of the Year
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Five members of the Lehigh men's soccer team were honored on Monday as the Patriot League announced its year-end awards and All-Patriot League teams.
Senior forward Mark Forrest was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Forrest had himself another high profile year, finishing the regular season with eight goals and five assists for 21 points. As a result, Forrest has 41 goals for his career, three shy of the Lehigh all-time record and 103 points, four shy of becoming the Patriot League all-time leader. Forrest was the main cog in getting the Mountain Hawks to their third Patriot League tournament appearance in four years. Forrest is the Patriot League's first repeat winner of the award since Bucknell's Conor O'Brien won the award in 2008-09. He's also Lehigh's first repeat winner of the award since Andrew Mittendorf won it in 1997-98.
In addition, Forrest was named First Team All-Patriot League for the second straight season, the third All-Patriot League honor of his career.
Senior midfielder Oscar Greene, junior defender Zarin Tuten and junior goalkeeper Will Smith also garnered All-Patriot League recognition, named to the Second Team. Greene, who tallied a goal and an assist this season, was named to the Third Team in 2017. This is both Tuten and Smith's first All-Patriot League selection, each guiding the Mountain Hawks to nine shutouts this season. Smith finished the regular season with a 0.75 goals against average and a save percentage of .825, second in the league. Smith is the first Lehigh goalkeeper to get All-Patriot League recognition since Ciaran Nugent was named to the Third Team in 2014.
Freshman forward Josh Luchini was also honored with a spot on the All-Patriot League Third Team after his solid rookie season. Luchini scored six goals with three assists for 15 points. He also had a .542 shots on goal percentage. Luchini is the second Mountain Hawk rookie in as many seasons to be named to the Third Team after midfielder Stevo Bednarsky in 2017.
Lehigh's five All-Patriot League selections is one shy of the program record of six selections.
