Fort Lewis earns bid to NCAA Division II women’s soccer playoffs
INDIANAPOLIS — The No. 23-ranked Fort Lewis (14-2-4) women’s soccer team earned the No. 2 seed the NCAA Division II Central Region and will host games this Friday and Sunday at Dirks Field.
On Friday afternoon, No. 16 Regis (14-5-0), seeded third, will face unranked and sixth seed Colorado Mesa (10-7-4) at Dirks Field. The winner of the first-round matchup will face Fort Lewis in the second round on Sunday.

The Skyhawks went 1-0-1 against the Mavericks this season, winning 2-1 in Durango on Sept. 21 and tying 0-0 in double overtime in Grand Junction on Oct. 2. Fort Lewis owns a 15-12-4 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools.
Regis defeated Fort Lewis 1-0 in Denver on Oct. 30 in the only meeting between the two teams this season. The Rangers own a 25-9-3 lead in the all-time series.
Colorado Mesa won two of three meetings against Regis in 2011, winning 3-1 in Grand Junction on Sept. 18, losing 4-0 at Regis on Oct. 14, and winning 1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference semifinals at Regis last Friday.
2011 marks the third straight year that the FLC women’s soccer team will have hosted NCAA playoff games.
Fort Lewis earned its fourth NCAA women’s soccer playoff berth. The Skyhawks are 1-3-1 all-time in the NCAA playoffs. Their deepest run into the big dance was in 2010, when they won the Central Region championship and advanced to the Elite Eight.
Additionally, the Fort Lewis men’s soccer team (19-1-0), ranked No. 3 in the latest national poll, will host the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs against No. 21 Metro State (14-6-1) Thursday at Dirks Field. Complete details will be announced tomorrow.
Should the Skyhawks win on Thursday, they will host the winner of No. 10 Incarnate Word (Texas) (13-2-3) and No. 4 Midwestern State (Texas) (13-3-1) on Sunday at Dirks Field.
Fort Lewis is the only school in NCAA Division II to host both women’s and men’s soccer playoff games.
