Fort Lewis holds at No. 3 in NCAA-II men’s soccer rankings
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team (16-1-0 overall, 12-1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) remained at No. 3 in ninth NCAA Division II poll of the season, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Continental Tire announced earlier today.
The Skyhawks won both games last weekend, beating Colorado Christian 4-1 on Friday and Colorado State-Pueblo 2-1 on Sunday. In Friday’s win, FLC wrapped up the RMAC regular season title, marking the 14th season in the past 19 years that it had earned either the league regular season or postseason crown (or both).
“I’m very proud of the boys for what they’ve accomplished,” third-year FLC skipper Oige Kennedy said following Friday’s win. “Obviously, we’re not done yet and we’ve got plenty left to play for. We’ve just got to keep ourselves focused.”
The Skyhawks conclude their regular season schedule at Adams State (3-10-2, 2-9-1) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The RMAC continued to place three teams in the Top 25 in the ninth coaches’ poll of the season: No. 3 Fort Lewis, No. 18 Metro State (11-5-1, 9-4-0), and No. 22 Regis (11-3-1, 8-3-1). Colorado Mines (9-6-1, 7-5-1) dropped out of the Top 25, but still received votes.
The Skyhawks rank highly amongst NCAA Division II statistical leaders. Ryan Wirth leads the nation in goals against average (0.353) and ranks second in save percentage (.893). Thomas Hoang ranks third in assists (10) and sixth in assists per game (0.63).
As a team, Fort Lewis ranks among national leaders in won-loss-tie percentage (second, 0.941), goals against average (second, 0.353), save percentage (.893), goals against average (0.353), shutout percentage (0.65), third in won-loss-tied percentage (.933), and total goals (seventh, 41).
