Fort Lewis women's soccer climbs to No. 6 in season’s second national poll
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team (2-0-0 overall) climbed to No. 6 in the second NCAA Division II poll of the season, released earlier today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Continental Tire.
The Skyhawks, ranked No. 7 in the NSCAA’s preseason poll, climbed one spot thanks to wins over St. Cloud State (Minn.) and Augustana (S.D.). Fort Lewis beat the Huskies 4-0 Friday and the Vikings 2-1 Sunday.
“We hope to get better,” was all fifth-year FLC head coach Damian Clarke said of the rankings.
Saint Rose (N.Y.) climbed two spots to No. 1 this week. Regis, which dropped three spots to No. 25, is the only one of FLC’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes to be ranked this week.
The Skyhawks continue their nonconference play this coming weekend with a pair of neutral-site games at Colorado Mesa’s Walker Field in Grand Junction. Fort Lewis plays Dixie State (Utah) (1-1-0) at 4 p.m. Saturday and Grand Canyon (Ariz.) (0-2-0) at 2 p.m. Monday.
