On the last night of the season, Florida State relied on a reliable force and an unlikely hero to defeat Stanford and add a fifth national title to the trophy cabinet. Freshman shot stopper Kate Ockene set a new career high with nine saves while sophomore Wrianna Hudson delivered an 87th-minute winner, marking the third time this season she had tied or won a game in the final three minutes.

Beginning just three minutes in, the Utah native faced a busy evening, taking up excellent positioning to stop a shot from Eleanor Klinger. Shortly after, she was called on again, pulling off back-to-back world-class saves to stop headers from Klinger and Jasmine Aikey.

Florida State registered its first shot through Taylor Suarez and created a handful of half-chances through Jordynn Dudley to enter halftime at 0-0 despite trailing 11-4 in shots. By that point, Ockene had already made seven saves while her counterpart, Caroline Birkel, had yet to be called into action.

The early second half saw both teams adopt a more cautious approach, with the best chance coming from a rocketed Aikey free kick, which Ockene once again had an answer for. This measured play continued until the 87th minute, when a deflected Taylor Suarez cross found Hudson at the right place at the right time to deliver the game-winner.

Stanford's best chance for an equalizer came when a penalty shout went to VAR review with 14 seconds remaining, but the on-field call of no foul was confirmed.

Hudson, scorer of the only goal in the semi-final, was named Offensive MVP. Ockene took Defensive MVP honors, finishing the College Cup with 11 saves and conceding no goals. Florida State head coach Brian Pensky summed their impact up succinctly in the post-game press conference.

“In tough games like this, you need a goalkeeper to keep you in the game, and we had a goalkeeper keep us in the game. And then you need to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net. Wrianna did that.”

Despite a strong effort, Stanford’s quest to avenge the 2023 loss fell just short, while the Seminoles walked away with their second title in three seasons.
