Senior Garrett Seitz Garners RMAC Summit Award
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.: Regis University men's soccer senior Garrett Seitz was named the 2013 RMAC Summit Award recipient along with Laura Tita of Fort Lewis College for men's and women's soccer respectively.
The RMAC Summit Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals sites for each of the RMAC's championships. All GPAs are based on a straight grading scale to ensure consistency among institutions. Any tie is broken by the number of credits completed.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and competing at the championships.
A member of the 2013 RMAC Regular Season Championship team, senior defender Garrett Seitz has led the Regis Ranger back line for the past four years. Playing in 61 games for the Rangers, Seitz has earned an impressive 46 starts, including 17 starts in 19 appearances as a true freshman. He has logged over 4,000 minutes of play for Regis and compiled six points from the back line, netting one goal and four assists in his career.
The Biological and Biomedical Sciences major has maintained an astounding 3.93 cumulative grade point average and collected a host of academic accolades including: 2011 and 2012 RMAC All-Academic Second Team, 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District First Team, 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, 2013 RMAC All-Academic First Team, and 2013 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District. He was also recently named to the All-RMAC Third Team.
Both recipients will be honored during the semifinal round of the RMAC Tournament on Friday, Nov. 8, at their respective host sites. Seitz will receive his award prior to the 2 p.m. semi-final match at host school Regis University in Denver, Colo. Tita will be honored prior to the 6:30 p.m. semi-final match at host school Colorado Mines in Golden, Colo.
Regis will play in the second round of the RMAC tournament tomorrow, Nov. 8 at 2:00 p.m. against #5 seed Fort Lewis College. The Rangers entered the tournament as the #1 seed after earning regular season RMAC Champion status.
