Garvey Earns Player of Week Honors
NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Rookie defender Rachel Garvey was named College Sports Madness Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week for her exceptional performance during this past week’s action.
Garvey propelled the Purple Eagles to their second overtime victory of the season, this time over Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon. The Grand Island, N.Y. native knocked in a direct free kick past the Penguin goalkeeper in the 93rd minute of play, handing Youngstown its first loss of the season.
Garvey finished the weekend with two shots.
Garvey and the Purple Eagles return home to host the 2012 NU Fall Classic this coming weekend, welcoming local rival Buffalo, along with Robert Morris, St. Francis (Pa.) and Robert Morris to Monteagle Ridge.
Niagara will play St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. and wrap up the tournament against Robert Morris on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m.
