Garvey Fuels Orediggers To Rout At Oklahoma Christian
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Powered by the first collegiate brace from junior Richard Garvey, Colorado School of Mines men's soccer rolled in its weekend finale Sunday, hanging a 4-0 shutout on host Oklahoma Christian at Eagle Soccer Field in Oklahoma City.
Mines (2-1) dictated the offensive tempo from the opening whistle, and less than 18 minutes in, Garvey produced the eventual game-winner at 17:19 on a header off a free kick by senior Tannor Randle.
Senior Ryan Leach added a second header score and his first collegiate goal 7:26 into the second 45:00 by way of long throw-in from freshman Jackson Shelledy.
Continuing on the attack, Garvey was part of consecutive goals 1:15 apart in the 74th and 75th minutes, completing a cross from freshman Nikolaus Grotz from eight yards, before setting up Allan Foster III with 15:29 left to play.
The Orediggers outshot OCU (1-2) 19-8 and 5-2 in shots on target, and held a 7-3 advantage on corner tries.
Sophomore Collin Hall recorded his second straight blank sheet in goal with two saves across regulation.
Continuing its season-long seven-game road swing, Mines opens RMAC play at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 against reigning tournament champ Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction.
