Georgetown GK signs with San Jose
Georgetown goalkeeper J.T. Marcinkowski has signed a Homegrown contract with the San Jose Earthquakes, the club announced on Wednesday.
“JT has emerged as one of the brightest goalkeeper prospects in the nation,” Earthquakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli said in a press release. “He established himself as a regular with the U.S. U-20s and we’re excited about his potential as a professional. He is also further proof of the strides that our youth system has made and expect more Academy products to follow in his footsteps.”
The starting goalkeeper for the Hoyas over the last three seasons, Marcinkowski made 56 starts, conceding 49 goals. Named the Big East Freshman of the Year after the 2015 campaign, the California native also earned a call-up to the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team at this year's U20 World Cup.
“I'm extremely proud of JT and he deserves this opportunity. He is as ready to tackle the challenges of being a professional athlete as any player I've worked with,” Georgetown head coach Brian Wiese said in a statement. “JT has been our starting goalkeeper for the past three seasons, and we will miss his steadying presence in back. He leaves very tough shoes to fill. What I’m most proud of is that he will be continuing his education and is committed to graduating with a Georgetown degree.”
He becomes the third Homegrown signing for the Quakes, joining Tommy Thompson and Nick Lima.
