Georgia State Drops Conference Opener
The women's soccer team dropped its conference opener in a close match against Northeastern, 1-0.
The Panthers (3-4-1) travelled to Boston to face Northeastern (3-6) in the first conference game of the season and the first of two games on the east coast this weekend.
The Panthers had the early advantage in the match, getting off more shots than Northeastern in the early goings with a 4-1 shot avdantage. However, Northeastern struck first, with a Greta Samuelsdottir header off a corner kick.
This goal ended up being the game-winner, as neither team could find the goal in the second half. Northeastern played tough defense in the second half, not allowing one shot by the Panthers.
Alyssia Feronti led the team with three shots, one on goal. Sophomores Whitney Ravan and Leah Beasley also had one shot on goal for the Panthers.
Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Toler made four saves and allowed one goal.
Georgia State will next head a little farther down the coast to Hempstead, N.Y., to take on Hofstra on Sunday. The two teams will square off at 1 p.m. on Sunday and live stats will be available.
