ATLANTA – The Georgia State women’s soccer to fell to UNC-Wilmington in its season finale 3-0.

The final score does not reflect the majority of the match, as it UNCW (12-6-1, 7-3 CAA) only had a 1-0 lead up until the 76^th minute. In the 77^th minute, UNCW’s Stephanie Rose scored her 13^th goal of the season on a breakaway shot, followed by an own-goal by Georgia State (4-11-2, 1-8-1) in the 84^th minute to push the 1-0 score to 3-0.

In the first half, UNCW’s Stephanie Bronson scored off an assist from Maddie McCormick to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. The Seahawks outshot the Panthers 5-2 in the first half.

The second half saw the Panthers pickup their offensive attack. They took eight shots in the second, five of which were on goal. At 58:35 junior Alison Gonzalez’s header hit the crossbar and rebounded back into play. Sophomore Whitney Ravan then attempted to push it into the net, but UNCW’s goalkeeper, Caitlin Hunter, made the save. Gonzalez tried another shot at 59:55, but Hunter made another save. Hunter finished with a total of five saves.

Gonzalez took another shot in the 85^th minute, but again had it saved. In the 84^th minute, UNCW’s win was sealed by an own goal from the Panthers, who were trying to head it out of traffic after a corner kick from the Seahawks.

This was the last match of the season for the Panthers, as they are ineligible from post-season play. The team finished with a 4-11-2 regular season record and went 1-8-1 in the CAA. Georgia State will compete in the Sun Belt Conference next season.
