GOALS BY FREGULETTI, ROOT LEADS MU TO 2-0 WIN AT RMU
MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. - The Monmouth University women's soccer team registered a 2-0 victory at Robert Morris in Northeast Conference action on Sunday afternoon, as a pair of freshmen Alexa Freguletti and Jill Root tallied markers for the Hawks in the key road win.
Monmouth, which has now won nine of its last 11 matches, improves to 9-5 on the year, and 5-1 in league play.
Set up by assists from junior Stacy Kadell, Freguletti notched her first career score for Monmouth, and Root tallied her second career goal for the Blue and White.
"Today was a good result, against a tough team," stated head coach Krissy Turner, whose Hawks have won at least five matches in NEC action in each of the last six seasons. "This trip is always a challenge in many ways, so coming home with three points is better than none."
Kadell, who upped her assist total on the year to three helpers, set up Freguletti's score in the 40th minute, as she played a ball in behind the defense that the rookie deposited inside the right post, by RMU goalkeeper Jessica Olin.
The Hawks doubled their lead in the 62nd minute when Kadell found Root off a switch of fields, as Root drilled a left-footed shot by Rebecca Schoenecker for the 2-0 lead.
Robert Morris (9-6-1, 3-3 NEC) held an 11-9 edge in shots, as Monmouth freshman goalkeeper Jocelyn McCoy made four saves in her fifth career clean sheet. The Hawks forced the RMU duo of netminders to make a save each.
Monmouth returns to action on Friday, October 21 when the Hawks host Quinnipiac at 4:00 p.m., on The Great Lawn, where the Hawks are 5-1 this season.
