Grizzlies No Contest for #1 Rangers; Nicolosi Garners Eighth Shut Out of Season
ALAMOSA, Colo.: Nationally ranked #1 Regis men's soccer improved their record to 13-0 in the RMAC and 15-0-1 overall after shutting out the Grizzlies of Adams State College 3-0. The match marks freshman Christian Nicolosi's eighth shutout of the season; he put up three saves on the day.
The Rangers outshot their opponents 12-7 throughout, while putting eight shots on goal as well.
It took Regis just seven short minutes to net their first goal, as sophomore Martin Maybin and senior Mark Kelly connected early. Maybin passed in to Kelly who dribbled through the Grizzly defense and keeper to earn the 1-0 lead.
Maybin gathered another assist in the 12th minute after he dribbled past his defenders and sent the ball over to sophomore Adam Tormoehlen. Tormoehlen sent the ball through the posts from directly in front of the goal (picture shown).
The rest of the first half remained silent for the Rangers, but they earned another goal just 11 minutes into the second half.
Tormoehlen made a run down the left side of the field and cut towards the middle before passing towards senior Stephen Reed at the front of the goal. Adams goalkeeper came out to meet Reed, but not before he got a touch on the ball to send it rolling into the goal.
The Rangers will finish RMAC regular season play in Durango, Colo. They will take on the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College at 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 28.
