Grizzlies Steal 1-0 Road Win Against No. 16 Mines
GOLDEN – Undone by an own goal in the final minutes, NSCAA No. 16 Colorado School of Mines men's soccer fell 1-0 to visiting Adams State Friday evening at CSM Soccer Stadium.
Benefitting from a mistruck header with 1:29 left following a throw-in sequence, the Grizzlies (6-4, 4-3 RMAC) earned the program's inaugural win against Mines since the series began in 2010.
The Orediggers (7-2-1, 5-2 RMAC) combined for 27 shots and 12 shots on goal, the second-highest single-game output this season, and held an 8-2 advantage on corner attempts.
Senior Tesho Akindele had three of his game-high eight looks on frame, while senior Alex Gunberg and sophomores Richard Garvey and Chayce Moniz each forced two saves in three tries. Junior RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Jared Herselman placed two of his four shots on net.
Senior Colin Baker stopped three shots in the loss, falling to 7-2-1 in his first season.
Mines will look to bounce back Sunday, closing its three-game homestand at 2 p.m. against two-time NCAA Division II national champion Fort Lewis (6-4-1, 3-4 RMAC).
