Trinity College's Cody Savonen scored his first collegiate goal in the 74th minute and the Bantams held on for a 1-0 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Trinity's Campus Field on Sept. 7.

Domenic Quade stopped all four shots he faced and Timothy Shea was credited with an assist on Savonen's goal. The Bantams, who were playing their season opener, held a 14-8 shot advantage and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Fred Porges '14 made seven saves in his second career start at Hamilton (1-1-0 overall, 0-1 NESCAC). John McGuinnis '16 finished with three shots, including two on goal.

After a scoreless first half, Trinity's Christian Carrasquillo found himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper less than three minutes into the second half. Porges charged at Carrasquillo to cut the angle and disrupted the scoring opportunity in the keeper’s box, but he earned a yellow card in doing so, and Carrasquillo was awarded a penalty kick. He placed the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal frame, but Porges deflected the ball off the post and back into his arms.

The Continentals didn’t go down easy. With eight minutes to play, Peter Goldsmith '17 ripped a shot from outside the box that sailed over the net.  Hamilton gave Trinity another scare with just 12 seconds left. After the Bantams were whistled for a foul, a free kick was placed perfectly in the goalie box, where McGuinnis headed the ball just over the crossbar as time expired.

The Continentals host Bates College for another NESCAC game on Saturday, Sept. 14.
